The Poles Know How to Warm Up

Alan is a genius at using Google Earth and the transportation maps to figure out what tram to take, where to get off, and then where to go.  I’m a genius at observing details in our environment: the restaurants, stores, buildings, etc. we’ve passed.  He can’t understand why I don’t want to read the transportation maps and I can’t understand why he doesn’t remember the way we walked home two days ago.  We are both genius at finding coffee houses/bars to get out of the cold and warm up with hot drinks.

Today we had hot honey vodka with Krupnik liqueur, Becherovka, honey, orange, lemon and cloves at Bar Szara.  I’m starting to feel my fingers again after taking off my gloves to snap pictures.  Feeling like we were just getting warm, Alan followed the hot vodka with hot chocolate with cherry vodka and I had winter tea with ginger, cloves, anise, and honey.

Notice the spelling for chile (how we New Mexicans spell it) on the blackboard: chilli.  At dinner one night I had a tasty shrimp and pasta dish with chilly.

Yesterday we got out of the cold at the Batory Restauracja which is on an anchored river boat.  Alan had a hot hot vodka (notice the theme here) and I had mulled wine with spices and orange.  Loved the spoons served with the drinks.  As we sat imbiding, large snowflakes started falling and the wind started blowing.  We:  toasty warm gazing out.

Atmosphere is everything.
