Historical Charm with a Cosmopolitan Twist

Driving up to the hotel from the train station I was immediately in love with Vienna House Andel’s Lodz. Taking a building from the past and transforming it to fit our contemporary world is something I wish other cities and companies would undertake.

Once you enter the lobby there is lofty and interesting architecture everywhere you look. The original exposed brick work is juxapositioned with bare walls and modern historical photography and artwork.

Staff from the front desk, housekeeping, fitness area, and restaurants were professional and friendly.

Our junior suite was a mega suite with soaring windows, curved ceilings with beams and a colorful décor.

The breakfast buffet was a feast for the senses and taste with no detail over looked. Regional foods, homemade breads and jams, traditional Polish breakfast foods and on and on…were artfully laid out often with signage describing the food.

Andel’s Hotel Łódź  opened in May 2009 in the historic building of the former weaving mill of a textile factory.

It is the first four-star hotel in Łódź. The assumptions and design were based on the Andel brand ‘s designer idea that worked well in Prague, Krakow, and Berlin. Works in the facility were carried out under the supervision of a conservator, in accordance with its guidelines.

The hotel offers its guests 220 standard rooms, 53 high standard rooms, 4 maisonette rooms and a presidential suite. The hotel has 7 conference rooms, on the top floor there is the largest ballroom in Łódź for 800 people and a glazed swimming pool with a view of the city. The interiors of the hotel expressing a very modern and expressive design combined with post-industrial architecture are by the London duo Jestico+ Whiles.

I’m not sure what a glazed swimming pool is. That is what the hotel called it. I wish I had taken a picture of the pool where is juts out over the building about 15 feet. I was working out when I saw it and didn’t have my phone to take a picture.
